New Features in Intune 2408 Service Release
Let’s look at the new features and improvements that were added to the Intune 2408 service release, released in the month of August 2024. For more details, refer to Microsoft documentation on Intune 2408 New Features.
1. New CPU architecture filter device property for app and policy assignments
This is probably the most intriguing feature in Intune 2408, which allows you to filter the assignment using different device properties, such as device manufacturer, operating system SKU, and more. The filter can be used when you assign an app, compliance policy, or configuration profile. The cpuArchitecture device filter property can be used for both Windows and macOS devices.

2. Mobile Threat Defense connectors supported by 21Vianet
21Vianet now supports Mobile Threat Defense (MTD) connectors for Android and iOS/iPadOS devices for MTD vendors. For those of you who are unaware, 21Vianet is a hosting company with datacenters serving customers globally.
3. Organizational messages moved to Microsoft 365 admin center
This is a major change in Intune release 2408, where Microsoft has decided to move the organizational feature out of the Intune admin center to the Microsoft 365 admin center. You do not need to worry if you set up organizational messages in Intune; they will be accessible in the Microsoft 365 admin center.
4. Updates for managing macOS devices
Starting in Intune 2408, account-driven Apple user enrollment is supported. It has a new and improved version of Apple User Enrollment, for devices running iOS/iPadOS 15 and later. This new enrollment method utilizes just-in-time registration, removing the Company Portal app for iOS as an enrollment requirement. For iOS/iPadOS 15 and later, users can initiate enrollment directly in the Settings app, resulting in a shorter and more efficient onboarding experience.
5. Intune Management Extension logs improvements
Starting with the Intune 2408 update, a new log file named ‘AppWorkload.log‘, has been added, which will contain all logging information related to app deployment activities conducted by the IME. This is going to help all the Intune administrators who deploy apps to provide better troubleshooting and analysis of IME events on the client.
6. Updates to the Discovered Apps report
In addition to providing information about Store apps, the Discovered Apps report now also includes publisher information for Win32 applications. This dedicated report gives a list of discovered applications that are installed on devices that are enrolled in Intune for your tenant. Microsoft has included publisher information as a column in the Discovered Apps report rather than only putting it in the data that is exported from the report.
7. Endpoint Privilege Management elevation rules creation made easy
In Intune 2408, the administrators can create Endpoint Privilege Management (EPM) elevation rules directly from a support-approved elevation request or from details found in the EPM Elevation report. This feature eliminates the task of manually identifying specific file detection details for elevation rules.
Apart from the new features discussed above, the other additions in Intune 2408 include support for new protected apps, Managed Home Screen (MHS) support for Android Enterprise Fully Managed devices, new settings for Apple settings catalog, etc. To conclude, the Microsoft Intune 2408 service release brings a huge set of features and improvements for customers.
