Welcome to Cloud GuidesšIn this article, we’ll show you how you can deploy Bitwarden app using Intune. To install the Bitwarden desktop application on Windows devices, we will use the Microsoft Store app method in Intune.
Bitwarden is the most trusted password manager for passwords and passkeys at home or at work, on any browser or device. You can use this app to save your passwords in a secure vault. It also offers an AES-256 encryption cipher to keep your passwords safe and secure.
After enrolling your Windows devices into Microsoft Intune, you can deploy applications and update the apps remotely. On enterprise systems, you can deploy Bitwarden password manager either from the new Microsoft Store or as a Win32 app. We recommend using the Microsoft Store rather than the Win32 app because installing apps from the Store is much faster and easier.
Steps to deploy Bitwarden App using Intune
We will now demonstrate the steps to add the Bitwarden app into Intune and deploy it to Windows 10/11 devices.
Step 1: Add the Bitwarden app to Intune
Let’s add the Bitwarden app from the Microsoft Store into Intune with the following steps:
- Sign in to the Microsoft Intune Admin Center.
- Go to Apps > Windows and select the Add option.
- In the Select app type pane, click on the drop-down and select Microsoft Store app (new).
Click the option “Search the Microsoft Store app (new).” In the search bar, type Bitwarden. Intune locates this app and pulls the details from the Microsoft Store; all you need to do is select the Bitwarden UWP app.
Step 2: Configure the Bitwarden app details
After selecting the Bitwarden app from the Microsoft Store, you can customize the app’s name, description, publisher, install behaviour, logo, and other details. With Store apps, you will notice that majority of the app configuration is already taken care by Microsoft.
If you need to define a logo for the Bitwarden app, you can do so by selecting one. This logo will appear for your users when they launch the company portal app for installation. If you have configured the other details, clickĀ NextĀ to display theĀ AssignmentsĀ page.
Step 3: Assign and Create Bitwarden App in Intune
On the Assignments page, you must select the groups to which you want to target the Bitwarden app. You can choose to assign the application as required or make it available for enrolled devices. Select the group assignments for the app by clicking +Add Group.
On theĀ Review + CreateĀ page, review the values and settings you entered for the Bitwarden app. If no changes are required, click Create. This creates the Bitwarden app in Intune and deploys it to the specified groups.
The Intune admin center shows a new notification that new Bitwarden app has been created successfully. All you have to do now is wait for the Windows devices to check in with Intune. Once the Windows devices retrieve the policies, the app deployment occurs.
Step 4: Monitoring Bitwarden app deployment in Intune
In the Intune admin center, you can monitor the app deployment to see how many remote users or devices successfully installed the Bitwarden app and how many failed or were not installed.
To monitor the deployment status, in the Intune admin center, select the Bitwarden application. On theĀ OverviewĀ blade, you can see how many users or devices have successfully installed the app. If there are app installation failures, you should see it right away.
What is nice about Intune app deployment is that it also displays the names of devices or users who failed to install the Bitwarden application. Once you have identified the users or devices, use Intune IME logs to troubleshoot app installation failures. Look for those error codes in the log files that reveal why the app failed to install.
On the Windows devices where the Bitwarden app deployment is successful, the user can now launch the app from the start menu. For enterprise users, you must sign in to the Bitwarden app using your credentials, after which Bitwarden will do its job.
